Recover broken file chains in W2k Pro

Is there a way to recover all the contents of the disk? Is there a way to recover specific files which seem to have a length of 8k?
Specifics:
W2k Pro defrag stopped w/out ending on a fat32 8Gb partition. Next time I restarted the W2k Pro it checked the drive for consistency and changed invalid data to *.chk files. The *.chk files are in FOUND* subdirectories. W2k could not start. I installed W2k in another partition. I instaled Norton Sytemworks and run Defrag from there. Almost all of the disk was occupied. I Tried to perform Norton’s unerase but it reported insufficient space to recover files.
