I have a laptop that the motherboard went dead on. The OS would not boot, but when I booted from a floppy the files were readable. If haste, that is always a bad way to proceed, I grabbed my WinXP CD and decided to install to another folder and then dump info over the network. OOPS.
When I started the XP setup, there was 1300mb of unallocated space on the drive, so I created a new partition and installed to it. When it asked about formatting I chose quick NTFS, then proceeded. After the install finished I booted the machine to find that it had formatted both partitions. I am needing to recover the data on the original partition. I have tried using a desktop drive adapter and ‘Lost & Found’ software, but it would not properly recognize the drive. Any suggestions, PLEASE??? This was my wife’s laptop, and she needs her email and Doc’s or I am in the Dog House in a bad way. 🙂
