Recover network harddrive

I deleted a file by mistake on my network hard drive. Is there a way to recover it? I have downloaded several file recover software programs, but they only seem to work on drives connect directly to the computer, not drives on a network. The drive is a Maxtor shared storage drive connected through a Linksys router.
