Red X instead of a Graphic

Frequently I see a Red X instead of a graphic…both in internet sites as well as distorted graphice inn the Eudora email I use.
I have tried many corrections, but the problems persist.
Oh, this failure is in both IE6 and FireFox browsers. Ted
