RE:Enhance the user Experience in IE 6

In the Web Development Zone article “Enhance the user experience in IE 6”, it was stated that you could develop a 16×16 icon, name it Favicon.ico, drop it in the root directory, and it would show up in the Favorites menu in IE6 if the user bookmarked you site.

Is it possible to do this in other browsers like IE 5.5? I tried dropping it into the root directory of our IPlanet server, and it still uses the Netscape logo for the marking.

If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.
