Reminst NIC not recognised

by gmiller . Updated 23 years, 5 months ago

I am setting up a Win2K server in a school. Previously it was a collection of P2P workgroups.
The workstations are a variety of brands/models but in batches of identical machines.
I hoped to use REMINST to rebuild all of the w/stns to Win2K Pro (instead of W98). I am having trouble getting REMINST to work.
I have successfully installed Win2K Pro onto several different models, loaded up the apps etc and run RIPrep to copy the image back to the server. So I have several different images on the server. My problem is that I am receiving an error during the Client Installation Wizard (CIW). All of the workstations connect to the server (with either the on-board LAN or the remote inst boot disk) and start off the CIW. I enter the User Name, password and domain name. Then I select the required OS from the list of images that I have created. Then after a couple of enters Win2K Setup starts and gives the following message:
“The operating system image you selected does not contain the necessary drivers for your network adapter. …. setup cannot continue…”

I have looked at MSKB and located article # 254078 which tells me how to fix this problem. I’ve followed the instructions and still been unsucessful ie. it made no difference at all.

Has anyone had similar probs and been able to solve them? At this stage it looks as though I’ll be manually rebuilding every w/stn in the school!
