Remote control a Mac with a PC

I would like to do a VNC type control with a MAC 9.2 as the server, and a Windows XP machine as the viewer/controller. I tried VNC version 3.5 (i think) on the MAC, and tried viewing with both version 3.3 and 4.0 on the PC. I tried many different settings, and could get limited success, but it seems whenever an application is slow in opening a window the screen on the pc freezes. (The pc still has control, but the screen on the pc will not refresh without closing the vnc connection and then re-connecting.) I was testing it within our local lan, so there aren’t any firewall issues…

If VNC won’t work, does anyone have a different product – free or commercial that they have had success with?
