Remotely Map Drives Behind Firewall…VPN?

I would like to be able to access my office desktop pc’s external storage drive to syncronize files with my laptop while I’m on the road. Our office has a firewall which will not allow me to directly connect an outside computer to my office desktop, so what I would like to do is the following (unless someone has a better method):

Use LogMeIn to have my office computer initiate an outbound VPN to connection to my laptop (which I will be on) to allow the laptop to map to the external storage drive sitting next to my desktop. This will then allow me to synchronize files.

Any advice?
