Removable Storage

Every time I put a tape in the tape drive (Compaq 20/40 GB DLT). It does not show up under Physical Locations\Cpq 20/40 GB Tape Drive\Media. Sometimes I can “refresh” the display and the tape will show up. Other times I have to physically eject the tape, reinsert it and wait for it to load. Next I have to “refresh” again before the tape shows up. Why can’t I just insert the tape and have it show up normally. Is there a setting that can improve this. I’ve cleaned the tape drive lots of times, but doesn’t seem to have an impact on it. Thanks.
