RENAME A WHOLE DOMAIN

My original domain name contains an underscore (_) in the name and I want to rename the whole domain to remove it. Is there an easy way to do this without building a new PDC and moving machines into the new domain? Is there a white paper that describes the process? Has anyone successfully done this?
