renaming a domain

I am running the following: 1 W2K advanced server with 60 clients AD installed. I in the process of switching to 2 servers running W2K advanced server. The current Domain name is “abcd” (ex.) I need to change it to “ablebcdco.com” (ex.). The clients are not using raoming profiles.

Is there a method to rename the domain and either not bump the profiles at the desktop. If that is not possible then at least copy the old profiles onto the profiles created when joining the new domain.

I might not be thinking out side of the box, and there may even be a different solution.
