Restore Public Folder in Outlook 97

When a folder is deleted from the Public Folders in Outlook 97, where does it go? It seems to vanish. From what I understand, you cannot restore selected public folders from backup unless you restore the entire public information store. That wouldnot be an option; that folder must go somewhere???
