Restoring Exchange Server 5.5

i resently hade a server go down

i have a ghost Image Copy of the server

how can i restore Exchange Server with this kid of backup

i have already tryed just installing Exchange and then copying over the old dir
after doing this the exchange server services wont start

i am compleetly frustrated with this can any one help
