Roaming profiles and domains

I am trying transfer roaming profile from one domain to another. The two domains are hosted on W2K advanced servers, both are active directory.
What I have done so far is copy the directory from the local to a folder named profile, with permissions to the local administrator. I then copy the folder “profile to the new domain”
When I attempt to login using that profile “as a roaming” I receive the following message.

Windows cannot create profile directory \\acct\profile\knt.pds. You willbe logged on with a local profile only. Changes to the profile will not be propagated to the server. Contact your network administrator.

DETAIL – The network name cannot be found.

This is becoming a critical issue. any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks
