Roaming User Profiles Default User

by james richardson . Updated 23 years, 7 months ago

I have a strange problem, which one you erstwhile chaps/chapesses might
have come across before. We currently have a Win NT4 Domain, and employ
roaming profiles. The Default User Profile currently resides on the
netlogon area of the DC, which until recently was in use for any user who
logged onto the network. We are in the process of rolling out W2000 Laptops
and eventually upgrade to W2K AD. My problem is this:-

When a NT4 user logs onto a W2k/XP machine, the directory structure changes
and creates a C:\Windows\Profiles and ignores completely the C:\documents
and settings profile. I decided to remove the Default User from the
netlogon share as I believed that this was causing the problem with the
profiles. This hasn’t solved the problem and W2K/XP refuses to acknowledge
the correct path. I know we have policies in place for NT4 as part of
ntconfig.pol and wonder if this is causing the problem. I’m hoping that
someone has seen this problem before and might be able to give me a pointer
or too…

If any of this is unclear please ask.. and I appreciate in advance any
help/advice offered.
