I have cust with win98se box all patches and updates i moved a dos CAD program to this box and works great except for the serial communication from this box out to the nc machines is running slowly when we run the program in a windows shelll. if we use dos mode, serial comm proceeds quickly.
the serial port settings at the nc’s is 4800,7,E,1 xon/xoff.
I have tried setting device manager com settings to match the cam program. (7,E,1 xon)
i have tried placing a mode com1:4800,7,E,1,xon=on statement in the windows autoexec.bat.
the only thing that helped is dos mode. windows mode just won’t go fast.
anybody see what i am missing here?
even your assurance that it ought to work will help…i am now tshooting this on phone from 1500 miles away so hard for me to see what is going wrong…
by ‘slow’ we mean: the guys can watch there data coming into the nc from the win98 box via serial. they usually see it scroll in a page at a time. they see this when dos prgram is running in dos mode. in windows, they see it come in quickly for a second then slow to crawl. so figure we are going to fast for the nc but why can’t i affect this other than clobbering it with dos mode ?
any help appreciated. i do not suspect serial port card, cabling or such as dos mode will go fast w/o error. i suspect i need to throttle back the baud rate but i am not doing it correctly…
the dos program is old Americam, in case anybody has done this…
thanks in advance
