From times to times, Windows 98 SE behaves in a very strange manner. When it lacks some memory, or in all cases with some rare programs, an alert box pops up displaying :
“A missing DLL, SAINRAT.DLL could not be found” then an “OK” button.
Thebox can’t be closed, as it reappears as soon as you close it. there is no apparently attached task, so you can’t kill it. It makes the machine run very slowly. If you want to shut down your computer (which is the only way to get rid of it), you haveto click a few hundred times on “OK” (or keep the ENTER key pushed down and let the keyboard autorepeat do the job) or the shut down process would stay stuck waiting.
Obviously, there is not (and there was never) any file called “SAINRAT.DLL”, nor any file containing the word “SAINRAT” (and possibly searching for it).
This is the greatest mystery I was ever confronted to in the Microsoft Jungle. Obviously, nobody knows about it. It resists Windows reinstallation after having destroyed theregistry and the system files.
Anybody having a (sensible) idea will be welcome !
