sata drive not recognised

Hi there, new to the site wondering if anyone can help?

recently purchased a 500gb hitachi sata drive, plugged it in to my ecs 760-m motherboard, fired up my computer and nothing happened, didnt recognise it in disk management or bios, it spins up…help??
