Sata Hard Drive Problems?

Hi all, just setup a computer with windows xp and have installed a 20 gig ide hard drive which has OS on it but also have a hitachi sata hard drive installed.now my problem is that windows see’s the sata drive under device manager and also disk management.It says the sata drive is a primary partition which is healthy and also GPT protective partition? i have no options to allocate it a drive letter or format it.I have data on it but i cant access it ,any help much appreciated.James.
