SATA Unallocated??

by carlandtiffany . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

I surely can be the only one to have this issue, please can someone point out the error in my ways…?

To paint a picture, my PC contained an IDE HD which was the original HD and on which was installed my programs and OS. I added a second larger SATA drive which I used to store my data. My IDE went pop and I have had to replace it.

ON good advice I purchased another SATA and installed this as the main drive, intending to keep the second SATA as data only.

Herein starts the dilema: –

First off I am asked which RAID config I want – wont this erase my files on my DATA drive?? I opt out and disconect the DATA drive keeping just the new one in to install the OS etc, thinking I can transfer the data when I finally get into windows – NO SUCH LUCK.

The drive does not show in Explorer after raid drivers are installed but in the Computer Management app Windows can see my data drive as Disk 1 but no drive letter is assigned and is marked as “Unallocated”.

How do I get to the data? (most of it is backed up but not all – hence the need to get at it)
If I opt to re-install Windows and Raid the drives will this overwrite my data?

I hope there is someone out there with a bigger brain cell than mine :o)

Thanks,

Carl.
