Sata with IDE Sluggish

I am new to SATA drives and to this forum, I have been impressed with the advice and support so I joined… I have purchased and attached a Maxtor 320 gb SATA drive to an ECS P4M800PRO-M – 2.66mhz Intel Duo, with a Quantum Fireball 30gb drive (in place)and 1gb of Kingston 3200 memory. I’ve installed XP-Pro SP2, I’m not getting the performance speed/responsiveness) that I expected. Is there a bottleneck with the 30gb drive?
