Scandisk freezes @ programs & themes

Hi,
Running W95 the computer begins running scandisk at startup. It scans to programs and themes and then sits for a while and another message that says “scandisk encountered a data error while reading cluster 457 scandisk will try to continue pastthis error when scandisk offers to perform a surface scan choose yes.: I hit OK and it sits and locks up at this point. It is scanning C:\program~1\plus\themes when it locks. It will do the same thing in safemode and booting into a command prompt and running scandisk from there. The pc will restart if I do ctrl alt del.
