Scheduled Tasks not working

Trouble setting up Scheduled Tasks on NT4 with SP6a 128bit, IE6 (no active desktop). At the end of the task setup wizard I get “The Task could not be created because the account information could net be set. The Schedule service has not started”. Ican start and stop the schedule service from the control panel, pause & resume the service from the advanced drop down tool bar, and see the exe running in the processes section of Task Manager.

The Scheduler did work fine until I viewed the properties of a task that was falling over. After I sorted the script I added in an additional start time to do the final test on the task and it did not run after that. I can’t create new tasks (see error message above) nor get existing Tasks to run (which were running fine). Any ideas?
