Schema Master Offline

While attempting to access the Active Directory Schema, when I check the operations master, the window says that the schema master is offline.

When I attempt to change the schema master, it says “The requested FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO holder could not be contacted. The transfer of the currect Operations Master could not be performed.”

I’m trying to evaluate Exchange 2000, but the schema master isn’t available.

Any tips on resolving this are most appreciated.
