screen flickers

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 upgraded HD of 80GB, fixed DVD-RW optical, wireless modem, removable CD-RW it also has a PCI 3COM card. ATI video card. Screen Flickers, Fan comes on Frequently and PC Freezes untill Fan stops.
