SCSI Start Unit Failure

by grez_dego . Updated 25 years, 1 month ago

I have an Adaptec P6BDU (?) motherboard with an onboard SCSI Adapter. The primary IDE is a CDROM, the Primary SCSI is an IBM DMVS Ultra2-LVD HDD, and the secondary SCSI is an HP tape drive. I don’t know the SCSI model #, but the boot sequence looks like this:

At power-up, several system beeps and PC must be reset

ADAPTEC AIC-7890 SCSI BIOS v.2.01
SCSI ID:0 IBM DMVS – START UNIT REQUEST FAIL
SCSI ID:5 HP C1537A FAST/ULTRA-SE
SCSI BIOS NOT INSTALLED!

Of course there are time breaksin between each line as the failures are reported to the BIOS, but that’s the idea. So I have a couple problems here:

1 – Start unit req failed? Adaptec told me to go into the adapter settings and turn the “Send Start Unit Command” off, but that creates a hang and reboot situation.

2 – Is the HP C1537A Fast/Ultra SE correct? It’s an HP Tape Drive.

3 – SEVERAL system beeps.

I shouldn’t have to worry about IRQs because this is ON-BOARD, but I stripped all the add-ons anyway. Finaldetails: PIII-500, 256k RAM, Windows 9x Platform, IDE is detected fine.
