I cannot get Seagate STT8000A Driver to load or get the STT8000A to function at all on Window NT Server The tape drive stopped functioning about 2 months ago.
The Event viewer gave this message: “The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Tape0”.
I checked under Tape Devices under the control panel and noted that it indicatd that the device was functioning properly. I didn’t think to take note as to whether the device driver was running.
Instead I attempted to resolve this error by deleting the the driver file “Q157” and then reinstall in.
After I did so I got the following error at the Server reboot: “Error 0020. The System cannot find the device specified.”
And Tape Devices under Control Panel now indicated that the driver was stopped. I did not try to restart it.
I then obtained the “tdiag40” Tape Diagnoistic self-extracting file program from Seagate & installed it on the Server. It could not locate the device at all & suggested I donwnload and install the STTSCSI4.EXE which I did.
I loaded this driver in the “Tape Devices” and restarted the Server. I got the same Error 0020.
I checked under the Event viewer and saw this message: “The following boot-start or system-start driver failed to load: sttsci4”
I checked again under Tape Device and it again indicated that the driver was stopped.
I then checked Services under Control Panel and it showed that the drive was not started. I attempted to start it and got the message that the device could not be located.
So, what do I go from here?
