search for files or folders not working

I’ve got an HP 7920 running windows ME, which I’d dearly love to get rid of, but not for now. When I search for files or folders by going from start>search>for files or folders, nothing happens. I type in what I’m looking for and click “search now” and nothing happens regardless of where I tell it to search. I’ve tried selecting different options and nothing happens.
