secondary ide channel

I moved the hard drive from an old pc to a new one.
Problem is that the cdrom is not detected. When one looks in the device manager, there is no entry for
ide secondary channel. If I use dos drivers the cdrom is usable. I used the setup disk for the new pc and it installed the corrrect primary ide controller. Any suggestions would be welcome.
