Sending a popup to 2000 computer from NT

When sending a popup using net send from a computer running NT to a 2000 computer the pop up errors out. A popup can be sent if IP of computer is used but not name of user or computer name. Username is shown as logged in on domain and WINS is running on 2000 computer. Any ideas as to how to make 2000 get popups when using user name?
