setting USERNAME environment variable

Does anyone know how to set the %USERNAME% for a Windows 98 computer. I’m trying to use the net command with %USERNAME% on a Win98 computer but I forget how to setup this command: I know you go to Control Panel, System, Enviroment ? ? ?
