Sharing a Win2k Comp. with a Win98 Comp.

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

I’m setting up a peer-to-peer network for a buddy’s office with two Win 98 machines, a Win XP machine, and two Win 2k machines going through a Netgear RT314 Gateway Router so that all machines can access the internet via cable. The Router also has aDHCP Server included which I am using to assign dynamic IP addresses for all machines.

My problem; everytime I try to access shares on the Win2k machines from either Win98 machine I get a dialouge box asking for a password. I can see the Win2k machines from Network Neighborhood on the 98 machines, but can’t get past this password thing. Accessing shares from the WinXP and the other Win2k machines don’t display this dialog box.

Is there a way to eliminate this password request, and if not, what do I need to do to set the password for these Win98 machines?

Thanks
