Shutdown issues on NT wk

I have a laptop with NT4.0 spk 6. I work out of my home so I am not on the Domain at the office. When I log in to my laptop it takes too long for it to tell me there is no domain controller available. How can I adjust the timeout for the windows it doesn’t take 3 or 4 minutes before it finally puts me to the desktop. The same thing happens when logging off. It hangs for about 3 or 4 minutes before it finally logs off. I assume it is broadcasting, looking for the PDC to disconnect or something. But I want to limit the timeout so it stops quicker.
