Shutting Down Windows XP

Looking for a shorter way to shut down my computer. When I click to shut-down Windows XP, it does shut-down, but after a short while I get the message that it’s safe to shut down my computer and I have to press the power button to shut it down manually. When I installed XP previously I did not have this problem, my computer would shut-down automatically after 1 click. Thanks for any help…
