Slow menus in MS office 2000

After a virus infection, I removed Ethan and Bugbear which do unpredictable damage to Windows, ran a system scan with Norton 2002 with the latest virus definitions, (none found), the only apparent damage is the menus in MS Office 2000 are very slow,they scroll down instead of dropping down. I ran the MS office repair routine, then uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but no change. This could probably be fixed by formatting the hard disk & reinstalling Windows. Has anyone got a simpler solution?
