Slow start

I have windows 2000 pro and when I start the computer after being off, the computer takes up to 10 minutes to get to the log on screen and then it takes another 12 minutes to go through the personal settings. This problem has just started. When I first loaded the computer with win 2k it ran fine. Checked my setting and connections. All seem OK.
