SMS needs Assign clients not in a domain

I have WinNT & Win95 clients in a NetWare 4.11 environment, if I install SMS site in Active Directory will I be able to assign my clients without adding them to AD or in other words do I need my clients in a domain in order to assign them for software distribution?
