Socks

I am running WINNT 4.0 SP6. I have Internet access thru my WAN (Proxy). I use IE5.5 and I have put in my socks information in the proxy fields and it allows me to surf the Internet. But, for some reason it uncheck itself from the USE A PROXY SERVER in the Internet Options. Why?
