software/website for hardware upgrade detection

Hi,

I was wondering if there is software or websites that you can enter your bios/motherboard information and it can tell you what the upgrade limitations of your computer are. For example, the website http://www.cruial.com tells your ram limitations by telling it what model of computer you have. The website can also do it on it’s own by scanning your computer. I am specifically looking for hard drive upgrade options for an old IBM 300PL that has Linux/Ubuntu installed on it. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
