sony handycam and xp

anyone succeeded in installing a sony handycam video driver for xp?

sony provides a driver install which thinks its done its job. however, windows thinks it cannot install it even though it works, but, cannot adjust brightness when using windows messenger because (i think) windows thinks 1 device = 1 driver but handycam has 2 devices, audio and video. so windows installs the audio driver to drive the video! it works, but cannot make adjustments.

on the other hand, sony picture package can see/hear/adjust everything – but – it cant link with windows messenger. is there a war between sony and microsoft? (dont answer that, it’s a rhetorical question ! – microsoft is at war with every other vendor of anything)
