sound chipset drivers won’t install.

by canndyman . Updated 26 years ago

It’s an Aptiva 2137-E56,running windows 95, with a cirrus logic Crystal 4237B audio chipset. Crystal semi conductors says the correct driver is a series of nine programs which I downloaded and unzipped to file C:\AmOnline5.0\downloads\. Double clicking on the initilization icon(file CWDinit.) produces the error message( in a MSDOS window) “this program cannot run in a DOS WINDOW.” Attempting to point the browser from the device manager driver updater button to the downloads folder and clicking OK produces the
“no drivers for this device are detected” error message, Which i’m REALLY sick of seeing. So just adviseing me to use the device manager is not the answer. I need to know what file extensions to look for on the driver, where exactly to put the driver, why
my device driver wizard acts like the sorcerers apprentice, and I’m not awarding any points until these damn speakers make some noise!
