Sound on laptop DISAPPEARED!!! HELP!!!

Hi,

I’m using my flatmate’s laptop which is a TOSHIBA P IV 2.4 GHz laptop with lots of HDD space and RAM. He just left and till he was working on it, the sound seemed to be working okay… now I cant seem to listen to any sound… is it physically possible to turn the sound off, coz the volume control shows the volume as full… and I can even see the files being played on the computer…

Please help!!! I have lots of hours to while away before he comes back… would be nice if there was some sound for company…
