Sound problem

After intalling Windows Me my sound is not working. Sound card is installed and in the status shows that the device is working properly. When I try to test Sound Hardware test wizard it stop responding for few moments and then come to microphone test page and give only setting option for microphone and not for speaker. Microphone is working poroperly. When I work with volume control setting I can hear sound for speaker but when I run any song or any sound file it does not give any sound output.How I can come over this. Please direct if any one has any idea.
