Soundcard problems STILL – HELP!!!!

I’m running Windows NT Workstation on my PC at work. I can’t get the soundcard to work. The soundcard came with the computer; it’s not removable. The PC came with Windows NT, so one can only assume (though one should NEVER assume!) that the soundcard is, in fact, compatible. The soundcard is enabled in BIOS.
I installed the audio driver off the Windows NT installation disc. I dont get any errors that the audio drive isn’t found; there’s just no volume. The CD Player acts like it’s playing,but there’s no sound. The speakers are set up correctly and turned on.
