Sound.drv problem

I am receiving an error message that says “NTVDM KERNEL: Missing 16-bit system module” “please re-install the following module to your system 32 directory: SOUND.DRV”

This appears when I attempt to load programs for my kids. A CD of Windows XP was not included when I purchased my computer. Any help on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
