Soyo SY-5SSM won’t recognise HDD’s

by geoff59 . Updated 21 years, 2 months ago

I have just purchased a used Soyo SY-5SSM motherboard to replace my old one when a BIOS update went wrong. After installing everything I booted up and went into BIOS and it refused to recognise any of my HDD’s drive on IDE1 but it recongised my CD ROM drives on IDE2. If I swap the cables around it still won’t recognise the HDD’s. I put a DOS floppy in and it recognised Drive A; and also Drive B: but I only uhave 1 FDD.
I also purchased a Biostar M5VNB motherboard so I put everything on this one and on the first boot it recognised everything.
Is the Soyo motherboard faulty or is a BIOS update required. How can a motherboard be tested?
