Speakers work but sound recorded in QuickTime Pro doesn’t play.

Greetings! I have spent this evening downloading and updating drivers for my sound card in my Gateway 550GR PC. I finally have it to the point that it will appear to record my voice, but nothing plays back. I have checked the obvious, like nothing muted and everything connected correctly. I just downloaded QuickTime Pro 7 today. Can anyone help?
