spell ckeck in word 97 on win 2k

I am running windows 2000 sp2. I have office 97 installed and I have a problem. Unless a person is a power user, they cant use the spell check feature in word. if I bump them down to a restricted user they cant use the spell check.
Does anybody have any ideas
