Spool 32 error

I have an HP Laser printer attached to a Compaq Presario. Most of the time while printing I come accross the Spool 32 error. This error has also come up when not printing at which point the computer freezes and needs to be rebooted. Along with this, if the system does work properly and the job has indeed printed and no other jobs are to be printed, I can shut the computer down. When I restart the computer, the job that I had just printed wants to print again as windows starts up.

Any wisdom?
