Spooler Sub System Dll error

when printing documents in Word or using Excel, I will get an error which reads ” Spooler sub system Dll used an invalid or uninitialized “critial section”. and my pc freezes, which I have to reboot. What is causing this problem and how can I correct it? My operating system is Win 98.

After running Dr. Watson I receive the above summary, along with ” If the tastbar is behaving strangely, try exiting imgicon”. I don’t seem to be having a problem with my taskbar..
